Corneille – Octavo & Le Nez | Ceramic Plate Set, 2003
A colourful meeting of art, imagination and Dutch ceramics. This pair of decorative plates features Octavo and Le Nez by Corneille, bringing expressive characters and playful detail into your interior.
Bold black outlines and lively accents of yellow, red, green and blue stand out against the light ceramic background. The theatrical figures give each plate its own personality, while their shared visual language makes them a striking pair. Displayed on a wall, a sideboard or in a cabinet, they add warmth, colour and a touch of humour.
Created through a collaboration between Corneille and Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum, these ceramic reproductions were made for the Amsterdam branch of the Netherlands Red Cross. Both plates carry an inscription on the reverse dated 27 October 2003, together with the Makkum maker’s mark and Corneille’s reproduced signature.
Corneille (1922–2010) was a Dutch artist and a founding member of the CoBrA movement in 1948, alongside artists including Karel Appel and Asger Jorn. His expressive approach to colour and form made him an important figure in European post-war art.
This set combines the charm of Corneille’s imagery with a documented collaboration between an artist, a Dutch ceramics maker and a humanitarian organisation.
